Welcome to Plant Cell Organelles!
All living things are divided into cells. These microscopic structures are the building blocks for all life on earth. The average human body contains trillions of cells. That is how small a single cell is! Each cell contains many organelles, structures within the cell that perform certain tasks. There are two different types of cells. These are plant cells and animal cells. The main differences between the two types are that some organelles that are present in plant cells are not present in animal cells, and vice versa. Cells have different functions based on where they are located in the organism they are part of. In plants, the cells in the roots need to be able to absorb nutrients and other necessities for the plant from the soil. However, the cells in the leaves need to be able to absorb sunlight for photosynthesis. Similarly, in animal cells, nerve cells will have different overall functions than muscle cells. Although cells as a whole might have different functions within an organism, the organelles almost always perform the same tasks. You can use the tabs above to navigate to different pages for the organelles necessary for a plant's survival.
